This was an eventful day. First - we finally finished Montana and we are now in North Dakota. Yahoo! Secondly we prayed for encouragement and got some. Sometimes it just doesn't seem like we're making progress and mentally and physically we find it hard to get up day after day and ride over what looks like the same stuff we rode through yesterday. Today coming into Sentinel Butte both Marcia and I commented on how nice it was to have a town with green grass for a change. Then there was this place in the center of town that looked like a gas station of sorts but we weren't sure what else. Then we heard a friendly voice from inside inviting us in. Well, they had the best tasting sweet rolls and friendly conversation around a table that we could have wanted. This is a place that we never would have stopped at unless on bicycle and it was just what we needed. We left with smiles on our faces. This is what bicycle touring is all about.
Then we arrived at Medora where we found a great bicycle shop that treated us great. New pedals for Marcia, new rear tire, new chains, new cassette and lots of friendly conversation. They worked late to get us on our way. The shops name is Dakota Cycle. Great shop if you should ever find yourself in Medora, North Dakota.
Today was only 36 miles but it was a good day.
Total miles = 1623
Thanks Steve and Marcia for posting these blog updates. It's so great reading about your adventure. We follow you every day, and there's lots of folks in the mill who are interested in how your trip is going. God bless and good luck as you continue on!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. Your words of encouragement mean a lot. Tell the guys in the mill that I think of them often. A very good part of my life was spent there and yes sometimes I actually miss it (maybe a little).
DeleteWOO HOO! Montana is behind you! Reading your posts and looking at the photos, I understand now how that state might get just a tad monotonous. Similar views every day, but still beautiful! You two are doing GREAT!
